The Recap in 4
1. Zine-making
We created mini-magazines, also known as zines (pronounced: zeen) from a single sheet of paper. Zines include writing, images, collage, drawing, and DIY art.

2. Guest Artist: Keri Frank
Guest artist, Keri Frank, spoke about making art inspired by traffic signs and her recent work with mosaics and boxes. She then led us through a contour drawing activity and a paper weaving activity. Thank you Keri!
Check out Keri's work on Instagram at @kerifitzh2o.
3. Skills & Activities
We practiced sightless contour drawing by making a shape with one hand and drawing an outline of that shape with our other hand, without looking at the paper or pencil. This was a great way to warm up for contour drawing with sight after.
4. Cancelled: Meetup
Our meetup this Friday is cancelled, however, TJ and I will be at Eno Arts Mill’s First Friday. You are welcome to stop by TJ’s studio!
Eno Arts Mill Highlight
Watch this interview with Eno Arts Mill artist, Michelle Spaulding. She talks about healing vs thriving and making art as a way to honor a legacy. The video also highlights images from her impactful June show.
2 things I’m doing
TJ and I have art in the upcoming Uproar Festival of Public Art. The focus of our piece is LGBTQ+ existence and resistance, and is called “You Can Not Intimidate Us Out Of Existence”.
Uproar is a new arts festival in Orange County, NC, taking place from July 14 – August 12, 2023. 60 bold outdoor works of art will be showcased downtown in Chapel Hill, Carrboro, and Hillsborough. Cash prizes are awarded based on public voting and a jury panel of experts.
Our pieces are located at Carrboro Town Commons.
I am teaching Intro to Canva and Graphic Design on Saturday, August 19th at Eno Arts Mill from 2-5 pm. Learn how to create digital art, design products, and use basic AI. Register now at bit.ly/intro2canva.
