Non-artists ask: What do you do?
Artists ask: What medium do you work in?
Being a bad artist means I can be bad at any medium. When people ask what medium I work in, I start listing: I weave, paint, write, dance, sing, play music, draw, sew, do DIY art, make zines, collage, do graphic design; you name it, I will try it. Speaking of - I am going to John C. Campbell Folk School in 2 weeks to learn letterpress!
When I say I am an anti-disciplinary (or multi-disciplinary) artist, this is what I mean. When the art world or the professional world wants us to be one definable thing, I advocate for trying different things and changing over time.
Make any art you want. Try new things. Be bad at them.
Today is the Last Day: Sell Your Art at BAM!
Our first-ever Bad Art Market and Expo will take place on Saturday, Oct. 21 from 12-4 at Eno Arts Mill. Everyone is encouraged to attend and meet local artists who specialize in weird, wonderful art!
If you would like to vend at BAM, I will pay you $40 to sell your art, thanks to a grant from the Orange County Arts Commission. Today, Sept. 28, is the last day to apply.
Feel free to share with any Orange County artists you know!
New Techniques in Bad Art
I used an art kit from NCMA (inspired by Lina Iris Viktor’s art) to make collages featuring images from the September edition of Vogue, wiki sticks, and gold silk pajamas. They are all framed and for sale for $35-40/each.
I completed a few weavings as gifts this month that I am really happy with, and learned new techniques along the way. If you’d like a weaving in your life, I am bringing some to the Bad Art Market on Oct 21.
If you would like a custom weaving for a holiday gift or for yourself, I’d love to create one for you. Weaving makes me happy and I plan to teach it next year.
