Bad Art Club is having a market! Thanks to a grant from Orange County Arts Commission this dream is becoming a reality.
Mark your calendar: The Bad Art Market & Expo is in 1 month on Saturday, Oct. 21 from 12-4 pm at Eno Arts Mill.
Want to be a vendor? My newsletter followers get first dibs :) Now through Saturday night, I will not promote this opportunity anywhere else. I have 13 spots available. Starting this Sunday, I will open the remaining spots to the public.
Vendor requirements:
Have enough work for sale to fill a 4 ft x 2.5 ft table. Smaller works sell better.
Be present for the entire market from 12-4 pm on Saturday, Oct. 21. Set-up starts at 11:00 am.
What is exciting about this market? I am paying vendors. I believe artists should be paid to show their work and be part of events. I don’t know of any other local market that pays vendors. Most markets charge vendors to sell, even though the vendors are the attraction for people to come to the event. It’s weird.
Market organizers should also be paid for our work, but I believe we should ask patrons for this payment and not artists who are working at the event. Artists are asked to pay to work and it doesn’t make sense.
I believe we should ask those who are coming to see our work, get inspired, talk with us, and get exposure to the arts to compensate us. An example would be a small fee to attend a market. Some markets do charge a fee, but they still charge artists to participate - so they charge on both ends. I don’t share this ethic.
Thanks to the grant I received from the Orange County Arts Commission, this market will be FREE and open to the public. I will be paid to organize the event via the grant.
In summary:
Everyone in The Bad Art Market & Expo is being paid to participate.
It is free for the public to enjoy.
You will get to see artists who may not be at any other market in the area due to financial barriers.
I hope to see you at The Bad Art Market & Expo on October 21!
