Have you tried something new lately?
We are planning our first art market, and encourage you to try something new at Bad Art Club this month.
Shady is currently at the John C. Campbell Folk School learning letterpress, so I’m taking over this week. If we haven’t met yet, hello! My name is TJ (they/them) and I am an anti-disciplinary artist currently serving as Eno Arts Mill’s 2023 Artist-in-Residence, and I also assist Shady with Bad Art Club. Happy to be sharing with you all!
Shady and I have been working on Inktober, a 31-day drawing challenge where you draw in ink from a one-word prompt every day in October. This exercise is a great example of bad art because we do not work in ink, but we are having fun experimenting with this new medium!
This month we are working to bring you a fantastic, new, one-time-only market. Thanks to a grant from the Orange County Arts Commission, the Bad Art Market & Expo (BAM!) is taking place on Saturday, Oct. 21 from 12-4 pm at Eno Arts Mill.
The Bad Art Market:
Each week BAM artists will be featured in this newsletter so you can get a sneak peek at the art featured at the market. To see BAM! updates on Instagram, follow TJ’s account: @lovingyouquietly
Bad Art Market - Featured Artists:
These artists are going to be at BAM! Come see more of their work and speak to them about their creative practice on Oct. 21 at Eno Arts Mill.

Marsha Glickman
In her own words: “Structure and methodical detail show in my passion for deconstructing and reconfiguring found paper, paintings, book parts and other ephemera into meaningful works of art. I incorporate right and left brain messages with the effusive use of color to provoke the viewer to see his or her personal story in the work.
As a self-taught artist using only original found materials/ephemera, I find great pleasure in giving the disparate and discarded ephemera an opportunity for a new life; a new purpose and meaning when combined into a single construction. The complexity and hidden messages in these creations reference concepts and historical instances influenced by life experiences: living and travelling internationally, family upbringing, thoughts on world events and scientific education.”

Heather Hall
According to Heather, “My work serves to chronicle my process of responding to personal trauma by creating safe and beautiful spaces that integrate my experiences. I do not confine myself to one medium, often seeking a vision developed from mixing mediums such as pen and ink, water color, collage, puppetry, and most recently, cyanotype.“
Heather seeks “to interact with the community through work/play, hoping to spark connection in the shared experiences of grief, trauma, and making a place for one’s self in a world not fit for us.”

Halloween-Themed Bad Art Club
At October’s Bad Art Club we will focus on tarot, oracle, and playing card inspired art. We will also try Inktober drawing activities. No guest artist, just Shady leading the way!
This is our last non-mask-required class of the year. November and December will be masked only to increase access for all. If you know folks who need to access masked-only spaces, November and December are the best BACs for them.
Upcoming October Classes:
Art for LGBTQ+ Rights - Saturday Oct. 28, 10am - 1pm | Hillsborough, NC
This class is a space dedicated to LGBTQ+ people's existence, resistance, processing, play, learning, and creativity. Join us to learn about queer art and art that focuses on queer identities and rights. Open to LGBTQ+ folks and allies!
Tarot Art Class - Sunday, Oct. 29, 2pm - 5pm | Raleigh, NC
Using paper, collage, acrylic paint, drawing, and coloring, we will create our own visual representations of the tarot. Participants are encouraged to bring their own tarot deck for inspiration, or for sharing with others.
